Smith, Dr. Bryan Vincent

October 5, 1952 - December 10, 2022

The world lost a legend on December 10, 2022. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bryan Vincent Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years and best friend, Anne (O’Brien). Dedicated father of Julia, Trevor, Greg (Deanna Spina), and Breanna (Brandon Marshall), and adoring grandfather to Cade, Lachlan, and Beau. Cherished brother of Jeffrey Smith (Teresa Bellefontaine), Steven Smith, and the late Glenn Smith. Predeceased by his mother Dorothea Hanlon. Bryan is survived by his beloved father James Smith and stepmother Patricia Healey-Smith. As a loving brother-in-law, uncle, and friend, he will be dearly missed and remembered by many.

Bryan was affectionately known as Smitty, Doc, and Vinny. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humour and huge heart. He was kind, fun-loving and willing to help anyone and everyone. He was particularly passionate about his large extended family and his dear friends and colleagues. We are all so blessed to have had Bryan in our lives.

He inspired us to live life to the fullest and to our utmost capabilities.

After graduating from Internal Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Bryan provided three years of medical service to the Canadian Armed Forces. He then practiced as an Internist at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital, and in private practice, where he touched the lives of so many.

Bryan loved the outdoors, from camping in Algonquin Park to kayaking at his Crosby Lake cottage. He was an avid skier, tennis player, and gardener. Music was without a doubt an integral part of Bryan’s life. He loved playing the guitar and listening to live music. Smitty had a way of finding, or creating, a dance floor wherever the tunes were playing.
The family wishes to thank Bryan’s anonymous lung donor and the Toronto Transplant Team, as well as the incredible ICU staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

As an expression of sympathy, a donation may be made to the Queensway Carleton Hospital, the Toronto Lung Transplant Program, or one could perform a random act of kindness in honour of Bryan.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Monday January 2nd, 2023 from 3pm to 7pm at the Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Rd (between Baseline and Bayshore).
