Winn's wish was granted and she celebrated her 90th birthday on June 12 with all of her children, grandchildren and sister present. Winn always loved a party. In the months following, Winn’s health declined and she died peacefully on November 23, 2014 at the Central West Hospice, Ottawa.Winn met Donald McKay Allan in Ottawa after the war and they were married for 49 years until Don’s death in 1996. Winn and Don raised four children in Windsor, Ontario. Winn was the much loved mother of Laird, Beth Allan and her husband Dan Wiseman, Cathy and her husband Nestor Kostyniuk and Heather Allan and her late husband Mike Elrick. Grummy loved her nine grandchildren – Janet (Kevin), Jennifer (Andy), Valerie (Rachel), Allan, Patrick, Jamie (Robyn), Sarah, Nicholas and Meghan; and her six great grandchildren – Dan, Jake, Lindsey, McKay, Mason and baby Cary born just two days ago.Winn was born in Lynn Valley, Simcoe Ontario, on the family farm, daughter of Jeanetta and Edward Dimond . Winn was the dearly loved sister of Margaret Freeman (the late Tom Freeman) and the late Jim Dimond (Jean). Pre-deceased by her sister-in-law Audrey Dimond. Winn and Don travelled the world. Although they loved their travels, when recently asked her favourite place Winn replied Lynn Valley in Norfolk County. Winn was a veteran of the Second World War. She left Simcoe at 19 to join the Canadian Women’s Army Corps.Winn was a dedicated volunteer – giving her time and talent to her childrens’ schools, the Metropolitan Hospital Auxiliary, and the Art Gallery of Windsor where she chaired Art in the Park, Art for All and The Art Gallery of Windsor Volunteer Committee. Winn moved to Ottawa in 2012 and lived at Unitarian House where she immediately felt at home. Her family expresses gratitude to this caring and vibrant community. The family is thankful for the amazing kindness and compassion Winn received at the Central West Hospice in the last seven weeks of her life.
