With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of William "Bill" Purdy, who left us peacefully on January 12, 2025, at the age of 84. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Edna Ibbotson, his son Greg Purdy, and his daughter-in-law Leasa Purdy.
Born on February 19, 1940, in Ottawa to William and Edith Purdy, Bill attended Nepean High School and pursued higher education at Carleton University, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. Bill began his career at NCR and Bell & Howell, rising to the role of Vice President of Sales Operations. His work took him and his family to Edmonton and Toronto. Later, he pursued a successful career in real estate development in Toronto and Vancouver before returning to Ottawa to enjoy his retirement.
Bill was deeply devoted to his family and always went above and beyond for those he loved. His kindness and loyalty extended to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill is survived by his wife, Edna Ibbotson; his son, Greg Purdy; his daughter-in-law, Leasa Purdy; and his grandchildren, Alexandra and Kyle Purdy. He also leaves behind his sister, Sharon Vaillant; his brother, Kevin Purdy (Deborah); brother-in-law, David Minion; and stepdaughter, Kim MacAskill (Ken), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn Purdy; his parents, William and Edith Purdy; his brother, Lynn Purdy; his sister, Susan Minion; and his brother-in-law, Frank Vaillant.
A private service for close friends and family will be held at a later date, followed by a burial and celebration of life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Foundation in Bill's honor.
Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He truly was the best!
