William Edward Murphy

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of William Edward, also known as: Ed, Skip, Murph, Fast Eddie, Himself, Pops, Poppi, and Dad.

After a long happy life, at the age of 83, Ed was in heaven a half hour before the Devil knew he was dead.

Devoted husband of 56 years to Marie, the farmer’s daughter. Loving father to Megan (Ian), Tim (Grace) and Tom (Ariel). Adoring grandfather to Amelia, Seamus, Elliot, Fiona, Hugh, Juniper and Daisy. Uncle Ed to his niece Beth Robson. Ed was predeceased by his parents Kathleen May (nee O’Meara) and Patrick Earl Murphy, and by his cherished sister Elizabeth Ann Robson (late Bruce).

Ed will be remembered for his wonder and awe of his seven grandchildren, his many friendships, almost funny puns, sheer volume of Dad jokes, love of all things numbers (especially calculus), steadfast loyalty to the best baseball team ever (Montreal Expos), love of Canadian folk music, socializing at local pubs, traveling, amazing sense of direction and of course epic Trivial Pursuit matches with his sister.

Family and friends may join in Celebrating Ed’s life at Tubman Funeral Homes-Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road, (between Bayshore and Baseline Rd.) Nepean on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with words of remembrance at 2:00pm. As Ed would have wanted, the family asks that guests come in casual attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Bridges Over Barriers - Education Foundation of Ottawa are appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy.
