MacPherson,William James (Bill)
Surrounded by his family, Major William James MacPherson, CD (retired) passed away peacefully at the Perley & Rideau Veterans Health Centre on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 in his 96th year. Loving husband of the late Shirley (Hull), beloved father of Elizabeth and Stuart (Denise), caring grandfather of Gary (Mindy) and Patti and four great-grandchildren, and much loved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Bill was born in Molus River, NB, youngest son of the late William McPherson and the late Janet (Jennie) Adams McPherson. He was the last of his generation, having been predeceased by his twelve siblings.
Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and, over the course of a 36 year career, was stationed in Ottawa (Rockliffe), England, Germany, Rivers MB, St. Hubert QC, and Halifax NS. After retiring with the rank of Major, he worked for the Atlantic Lottery Corporation in Nova Scotia.
In 1990, Bill and Shirley moved to Osgoode, Ontario to be closer to their children. They became very involved in the community as members of St. James United Church and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 589, where Bill was a Life Member.
Friends may attend a visitation at St. James United Church, 5540 Osgoode Main Street, Osgoode, ON on Friday, October 18th from 10 a.m. until time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at noon. Inurnment will take place at the National Military Cemetery (Beechwood) at 3:30 p.m. No flowers please.
