William "Bill" Rupert Edgar
Bill died after a brief stay in hospital on February 18, 2017, at the age of 71, with his wife, Judy by his side. He was born and raised in Newcastle, New Brunswick, the son of Rupert Edgar and Margaret Connors. Survived by brother, Clarence (Sally), sister Janice Anderson (Leigh), sister Peggy Blakely (David), sister-in-law, Lynne Maurice (Bert), several nieces and nephews and many friends. Bill was forever grateful for the two Beaverbrook Scholarships that enabled him to graduate from the University of New Brunswick, first with a BSc in chemical engineering and then with a Bachelor of Laws. After being called to the Ontario bar in 1974, Bill began his career in intellectual property law in Ottawa where he practiced for 32 years. Bill was proud to contribute to his profession by serving as the President of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and was a Member of Honour and Emeritus Member of Federation Internationale des Conseils en Propriete Industrielle (FICPI). Bill loved adventure and travel and enjoyed friendships all over the world. After retirement, he took up golf with enthusiasm and shared the frustration and friendship of the game with the Men's League at the Rivermead. Bill always "started to relax" when he had a glass of good wine. He would be happy if you were to raise a glass in his memory.
