Suddenly on February 27, 2014 at the age of 70. Loving father of Alex and Fraser. Former spouse of Sandy Milne. Dear brother of Anne (Bruce), Eric (Mary), Tom, and Rick (Nancy). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may visit at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Rd (at Roosevelt) on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 1 p.m. until service time in the chapel at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
Bill was born in Brandon, Manitoba and went on to spend his early years in the Yukon. Bill got a scholarship, of which his mother was most proud, to attend Sea Cadets and as a result went on to Royal Military College. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Simon Fraser University. Bill began his career teaching at Sir George Brown College in Toronto. He then moved to Ottawa and became involved in the computer industry and was employed at Data Logic. He went into data management and was recruited to do Project Management work in Australia where he lived for several years. When he returned to Canada he became self-employed and worked for many government departments.
Bill had many interests. He was athletic and a fitness enthusiast. He enjoyed both individual pursuits such as running and engaged in team sports. He played rugby with the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club and played hockey with the local neighbourhood men’s league. He tried his hand at painting, played the violin and mandolin, was an avid reader and an ultimate history buff. More recently he became involved in helping to educate the community in cancer and diabetic health issues. But most of all, he cherished his boys. He was actively involved in their lives. He was a Cub/Scout Leader and an Assistant Hockey Coach on a number of their hockey teams. Bill also volunteered with Pellegrini Opera for the past 5 years. Our community will miss him.
