RUITER, Victoria
Following an unexpected brain trauma on Sept. 5 th which left her in a deep coma, Victoria passed away peacefully on Sept. 10 th , 2014 at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital at the age of 69. Daughter of the late Florence and Stanley Brown (South Africa), beloved and cherished wife of Edward (Ted) Ruiter, proud mother of Ashley Ruiter (Ivo Seitenzahl), Kirk Schick (Angela) and Mark Schick (Linda). Lovingly remembered by grandsons Jason Schick (Montreal), Mitchell Schick (Ottawa), Clint Seitenzahl and baby Stirling Seitenzahl (Canberra, Australia). Victoria will be sadly missed by her younger brothers John Brown, Edward Harris and Tim Harris of South Africa, sisters-in-law Heather Durant (Austin) of Florida and Lynn Riley (George) of Alberta, and brother-in-law Phil Ruiter (Cindy) of Alberta. Predeceased by brother-in-law Chris Ruiter (Meredith) of Montreal. Victoria leaves behind Auntie Iris Calvert (New Jersey) and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, South Africa, the USA, Europe, the UK, and New Zealand. A dog-lover who took great care of her health, Victoria achieved a passion for yoga, meditation, horseback riding, badminton, golf, and travel. She had the wonderful opportunity to visit 5 continents on this earth and enjoyed taking in the various cultures of foreign cities, swimming in the ocean at lovely beaches (and Constance Bay!), testing herself at challenging golf courses wherever she visited, and was known to enjoy the odd splash of Shiraz! Like all grandmothers, her interests focused on the well-being of her grandchildren in the most recent years. She glowingly talked about them at every opportunity. Nana Vicki enjoyed them and inspired them in their adventures, and was their biggest fan in all aspects of their development. The family will receive friends at the Westboro Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt), on Sunday, Sept. 14 th from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Please join the family for a service to celebrate Vicki's life on the 15 th of September 2014 at Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Ave., Ottawa at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Queensway-Carleton hospital ICU for their caring service. In memory of Vicki donations to CHEO, or a charity of your choice, are thoughtfully appreciated.
