It is with great sadness that Tom passed away peacefully, on Saturday, September 9th, 2017 at the age of 71. Loving husband of Liz. Devoted father of Andrew (predeceased) and Chris (Alaina Spec). Cherished brother of Bev Coll (Bob).
From a young age, Tom was an avid sports fan, whether he was playing, watching or even reading about sports. He was very athletic himself, playing hockey and football in his younger days and enjoyed recounting stories of his glory days on the field or the ice. In his later years, Tom enjoyed a good fishing trip, or even better a great fishing story. Most recently Tom, an avid Ottawa Senators fan never missed game night. He would often spend the next day watching highlights, reading the news about the game, and analyzing the stats.
Tom's love of numbers led him to a career as a lifelong dedicated employee at the Royal Bank. Tom enjoyed his work immensely, and this work saw him move from Toronto, to London and ultimately to Ottawa where he settled with his young family. Tom recently retired from the bank, but ever the banker he still enjoyed numbers, ‘ticks and flicks' as he often called them, and the smell of the paper. While Tom left the bank, the bank never left him.
Tom loved his family, and there was no greater joy than time spent with them. In particular Tom cherished his boys. He always had time to revel in and relive every detail of a funny story they told. Next to his family, Tom's second greatest love was all things food. Never one to turn down a sweet, or refuse a dessert he was particularly fond of Oatmeal Cookies, Carrot Cake and pies.
Tom was a true gentleman and his quiet intelligent manner and wonderful sense of humour will be sorely missed.
A memorial reception will be held in Tom’s memory at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd. (at Bayshore Drive) on Thursday, September 14th, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated.
