The Reverend Canon Kenneth Cowan
Peacefully on December 31, 2018, Kenneth Reginald Cowan passed away at Longfields Manor in Ottawa, in his 102 nd year. He was born on March 23, 1917, in Hawarden, Saskatchewan to Tom and Amelia Cowan. Ken grew up in Ottawa and went to Nepean High School and then Trinity College, Toronto and became a minister in the Anglican Church of Canada. He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy and sisters Greta and Dorie. He leaves a brother Roy who lives in Medex nursing home. Also surviving are his five children; Terry (Mary), Peter (Joyce), Colleen (Robert) Rollwagen, Phillip (Ruth), and Keith (Lee Ann Boyce). As well he leaves behind 10 grandchildren (and spouses), and 17 great grandchildren. Ken's long ministry in the Diocese of Ottawa, included Combermere and Eganville; St. Martin's, St. Stephen's and Christ Church Bells Corners, where he was instrumental in building three new churches. He also served the Diocese of Ontario in Land O' Lakes Parish. In between he spent a decade in Winnipeg as a Canon at St. Matthew's church. His ministry has touched a lot of lives over the years and he was grateful to have reached his 100 th year with many family and friends around him as he continued to attend Christ Church as an Honorary Minister. Many thanks to the staff at Stillwater Creek (where he lived for many years); and most recently at Thorncliffe Place and Longfields Manor. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. at Christ Church Bells Corners, 3861 Old Richmond Rd, Nepean followed by a funeral service at the church on Wednesday, January 23 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Donations in Kenneth's memory may be made to Christ Church Bells Corners.
