FINCH, Susan Ruth
Susan Ruth Finch (Lillie), 53-years-old, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in the early hours of the morning on Friday December 11th, 2015 at her home in Kanata, Ontario. Before taking her last breath, Susan was held and kissed by her beloved husband and children. After her valiant fight with head and neck cancer in 2012, Susan's battle resumed in August of 2014 when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that eventually spread elsewhere. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in her survival, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through months of treatments and procedures. Susan was born on November 10th, 1962 in Woodlawn, Ontario to Myrtle and Howard Lillie and was an older sister to her brother Jeff (Nancy Montgomery). She joined the workforce following graduation from Earl of March Secondary School where she met her sweetheart Murray Finch and it was love at first sight. Murray hired Susan to work in the pro shop at Edgewood Golf and Country Club and the couple married shortly after on October 17th, 1981 at Saint Thomas Anglican Church. Married for 34 years, Susan and Murray raised their 5 beautiful children, Adam (Valerie Finch), Lindsay, Erin (Trevor Harding), Emily (Glen Cameron) and Evan (Brittney Thompson) in Ottawa, Ontario. Susan lovingly cared for her family through her delicious home cooking and her ability to provide her husband and kids with endless love and support. Susan extended that love to her grandchild Christina and close friend of the family Jessica Johnson. Her role as a loving wife and business partner to her husband Murray made his life complete. Susan's many talents included her eye for decorating and gardening, her artistic ability and her natural flair to be a successful entrepreneur. With a real zest for life, Susan loved to dance and be silly with her children. She loved to travel but her favorite time was spent at the cottage with her husband, children and friends where she could always be found with a book in her hands. After the couple's retirement earlier this year, they spent a beautiful summer together on Big Gull Lake doing all of the things that Susan enjoyed most. She maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. Her kind heart and joy shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around will never be forgotten. No matter where this journey brings Susan, she will carry her family's love with her and her loved ones will carry on her legacy forever. The Finch family couldn’t be more thankful for everyone’s outpouring of love and support during this difficult time- it is a perfect testament to Susan’s life and the person she was. As per Susan's wishes, visitation will take place on December 19th, 2015 from 12-2pm at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel (3440 Richmond Road, beside the Queensway Carleton Hospital). The service will be held at 2pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome online donations to the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute-Cancer Therapeutics Program.
