Gibson, Susan Marie (nee Steer)
1947-2021

Peacefully at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at the age of 74. Loving wife of 50 years to Dennis Gibson. Predeceased by her parents Paul and Jean Steer. Cherished sister of Ronald Steer (Sheilagh) and sister-in-law of Cathy Miller (Bill), the late Elaine Dumba (the late Andrew) and the late Lois Czemeres (Alvin). Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews; David Steer (Delee Belt), Jennifer Steer (Henry Logan); Curtis Czemeres (Kim), Jeffrey Chemeres (Sherri Lockwood), Michelle Tobin, Kevin Dumba (Nadia Ukrainetz), Trevor Dumba (Isabel Craig), Shannon Dumba, Rob Miller (Meagan) and by many great-nieces and nephews. She will also be sorely missed by her many good friends.

Susan graduated with Arts and Law degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and has a list of firsts to her name, including the first woman to serve as a law clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada, and the first woman to be named a partner at Soloway Wright. She was a lover of classical music and a member of the Ottawa Choral Society for over 30 years and an avid bridge player belonging to clubs in Ottawa and Florida and spent many hours playing online. She enjoyed playing golf at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club and travelling the world with Dennis playing as many golf courses and visiting as many wineries as possible. During this time, she had 4 holes in one, which she often described as, “sheer luck”.

A celebration of life will be held at the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club, 1 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 1-4 p.m. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
