Smith, Steve
May 26, 1970 – June 21, 2021
After an incredible 8-month battle with pancreatic cancer, Steve passed away at home on June 21, 2021 with his loving partner Shannon Kenney by his side. Steve was beloved by all his family including his mother Isabelle and late father Dale; his sister Leslie (Jeff Perley); and his nieces & nephews Griffin, Delayna and Brody. Steve was an incredible father to Carter and Brayden and a father-figure-extraordinaire to Kate, who will all miss him greatly for his love & support, Dad jokes and break-out dance moments.
In addition to his love of Shannon and their kids, Steve was a lover of Vegas and all things sports – both as a player and a fan. In baseball circles he was known as “Smitty”, Panther Pit legend. He was the longest tenured player in NCBL Tier 1 history, with too many accolades to list. He will always be known as the nicest player on the field, beloved and respected by his teammates and opponents alike.
An avid, longtime 5-pin bowler, Steve represented Ottawa Valley at several provincial championships as a youth and adult. He will always be remembered as a great teammate who put smiles on faces both on and off the lanes.
Steve would want us all to think of him today, raise a glass and smile! We will miss you Steve(n)/Smith/Smitty!
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa chapter of Kidsport Canada, in Steve’s name, would be appreciated and is much needed to ensure all kids have access to play.
