Scribailo, Steve

Steve Scribailo aged 93, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, June 13th, 2020,
having been pre-deceased by his one brother, three sisters and his parents, William Scribailo and Mary Kowlosky.
He was born in Bienfait, Saskatchewan in 1927.
He spent his teenage years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which he loved.
As a youngster, Steve enjoyed considerable freedom that afforded him the opportunity to explore all parts of Winnipeg and engage in his passion for photography and cameras, an interest that would stay with him throughout his life. He worked as a camp counsellor at Camp Manitou, and for the Y.M.C.A  for a youth group called The Bulldogs. Some of his fondest memories were catching the “Moonlight Express” train from Winnipeg to Winnipeg Beach and dancing at the dance hall there. He was a skilled dancer, touring Winnipeg’s community centers teaching the local kids how to Jive, and eventually his kids, much to the surprise of the boys.
He then met his future wife Stella Pasnak at a pharmacy/ soda bar near his parents house in the late 1940’s. Stella was also born in Saskatchewan.
They were married in 1950 and would have had their 70th wedding anniversary this past week.
While helping raise his children in Winnipeg, Steve went to art school in the evenings and became a skilled technical illustrator with the Central Navigational School. He worked for the Royal Canadian Airforce as a civilian.
In the early 1960’s Steve was offered a position with the Department of National Defence in Ottawa where he worked as an illustrator . They bought their first home in Ottawa’s east end, which was a great source of pride. He stayed with the public service for 25 years, ending his career as the Head of all Technical Illustration.
His other passions were telescopes, reading science, and he was a wicked table tennis player.
He was very well read, and loved talking about the state of the world.
Our dad also loved a good laugh.
He will be remembered for his excellent sense of humour and for being a great conversationalist.
Steve Scribailo was a devoted loving father and husband and he will be greatly missed by us all.
He had four children with Stella, Steven (deceased), David ( Jane) , Robin ( Janet) , and September ( Michael). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Alison, Ryan, Jeremy, Dominic, and Kellen. His wife Stella still resides in Ottawa.
Our world has been made smaller for his passing.
He was cremated and his family will be placing his ashes according to his last wishes.
