April 22nd, in her 85th year, Shirley went to join her beloved husband, Robert Douglas (2002). Predeceased by dearly-loved brothers Fred (Faith) and Terry (Sheila), dear sister to Patrick (Evelyn). Shirley will always be remembered with love and great admiration by her children, Laura, Elaine (Hank) and David (Kim). She delighted in being a grandmother to Quinn and Sean, Kathleen, Elizabeth (Ian) and Daniel, Clara (David), Quentin, Cameron, Tyson, Colin and Eliza and great-grandmother to Malisha, Derek, William and Carter. Born in Vancouver, BC in 1929 Shirley worked as a stenographer for the RCMP in Victoria before marrying Bob in March 1954. They had 48 years of adventure together moving from west to east coast to the far north in service of the Canadian Navy before settling in Ottawa. Everywhere they went Shirley created a beautiful and welcoming home for her family and friends and we miss her laughter and the many great meals around her table. Her passions included painting, gardening, her pets, golf and Scottish Country dancing, her baked desserts are legendary. Shirley lived her life with quiet courage, dignity and kindness and found much joy in her family and friends, her home, and volunteer work for the Anglican Church. Heartfelt thanks to the staff at Extendicare Starwood for their excellent, loving care. Friends may visit at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road (at Roosevelt) on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 12 noon until time of service in the chapel at 1 p.m. For those who wish, donations to the Anglican Appeal or the Alzheimer's Society of Canada in Shirley's memory are appreciated.
