Peacefully on Monday, January 4TH , 2016 in her 83rd year surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 55 years to Philip Joseph Kennedy. Cherished mother of Andrew, Dana (Mike Barkley) and Katherine (Gaston Boisvert). Loving grandmother to Nicholas, Natalie and Jack. Predeceased by her parents, Harold and Madeline Furrie (nee Mulvihill), her sister, Sonia Gallagher, her brothers-in-law Ken Kennedy and Ken McBride, her sisters-in-law Elaine Kennedy and Alice Kennedy. She is survived by her brothers Tom (Adele) Furrie and Eric (Deborah) Furrie, brothers-in-law Mervin Kennedy and Joe (Lucille) Kennedy, and sistersin-law Maureen McBride and Lorraine (Dave) Dawson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Ottawa and raised in Wrightville, Quebec, she attended Immaculata High School. She worked at the Bank of Canada and at the CBC in the 1950's. Married in 1960, she stayed home to raise her family. Later, she re-entered the workforce, working for Delcan and then Carleton University (MacOdrum Library). She was an avid reader, loved sewing and knitting, as well as baking. She had a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh, and a beautiful smile. She loved travelling and always encouraged her children to do the same. She was a kind, gentle and loving woman. She will be greatly missed. Though she suffered from Alzheimer's in her final years, she fought the disease with grace and determination. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Granite Ridge Long Term Care Centre. We are forever grateful for the care they provided Mom. Funeral mass will take place on Saturday, January 9th at St. John the Apostle Church, 2340 Baseline Road at 11 am preceded by visitation with the family at 10 am just inside the church entrance. A reception will take place afterwards downstairs in the church hall. Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
