Garden Chapel

CONQUER, Shirley Hope (Gilbert) of Ottawa, ON

Shirley passed away peacefully on August 13, 2020 at the age of 92 years after a lengthy time with dementia. She is survived by her husband (the best boyfriend) of 68 years Phil, daughter Carol Rice, son Dick (Wendy) Conquer, grandchildren: Graham (Cayley) Rice, Jennifer (Aaron) McLean, Amanda (Marco San Pedro) Conquer and Lisa (Adam) Burgess, great grandchildren: Preston, Carter, and Gavin Rice, Sophia McLean, Bentley and Lincoln Burgess, Hendrix San Pedro.

Shirley started volunteering at a young age.  She has worked with The Arthritis Society, the Civic Hospital, the Heart Institute, numerous Anglican church associations and Centrepointe Theatre.  Her 50+ years with rheumatoid arthritis seldom slowed her down with any activity: skiing, square dancing, bowling, swimming, travel, knitting, sewing, smocking, card/dice games.

Thank you to the Bridlewood Trails Retirement Residence and the Garden Terrace staff for their extraordinary care.

Shirley loved life, would always dance to the YMCA song, loved to help others, many enjoyed her special occasion cards (with key words underlined).

Her favourite saying was “I am here to enjoy each and every day”.

Due to the current pandemic, a private, immediate family only, service will be held in Shirley's memory.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Arthritis Society.
