Ponech, Sandra

1944-2019

The family of Sandra Catherine Ponech are sad to announce her passing on October 30, 2019. Sandi was born in Belleville, ON grew up in Toronto, eventually settling in Ottawa. Sandi started her career with the Federal Government at Statistics Canada. As the years went on and Sandi's love for numbers became apparent she left Stats to take a finance position at Agriculture Canada. After a few years she left Agriculture and took her talents to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Shortly thereafter she retired. She was someone who made friends easily. Always willing to go out on a limb and help the underdog. She was loyal, kind and always up for the next adventure. Sandi had two great loves in her life, her son Ken and travel. She could often be found heading off to exotic places around the globe. Her favourite mode of travel was cruising. She was an excellent sewer, knitter and cross stitcher. Sandi volunteered tirelessly. She helped with the day program at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Orpheous and eventually found a home at the Ottawa Little Theatre (OLT) where her passion for theatre and art had a chance to flourish. It was here that her talent for sewing and making costumes excelled. She was a perfectionist in everything she did. Her eye for detail was second to none. Her time at the Little theatre was varied. After a few years she became the first General Manager of OLT. Her talents did not end there. Sandi went on to direct a play called the Mousetrap. Sandra always rose to a challenge. Her company, wit and zest for life will be sorely missed by anyone who knew her. Sandi will always remain strong, committed and passionate in our hearts and minds.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean, on Monday, November 4, 2019 at 11 am.  A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Diabetes Society would be appreciated.  Tributes, condolences, and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
