Born on December 1, 1937, Safi Haddad was the firstborn child of Afif and Lisa (Sarhan) Haddad, with family roots in Sednaya, Syria. A man who cherished tradition, Safi continued this legacy by naming one of his sons David, honoring both a brother and an uncle.
A kind-hearted individual, Safi had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly enjoying the tulip festival in Ottawa due to his love of flowers. In his younger years, he was an avid sports enthusiast, especially fond of tennis. His love for music was well-known, with many remembering his decades of playing the lute before he took up the piano.
Safi pursued his natural talent for numbers, earning a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Damascus University. He furthered his education with a master’s degree in Planning & Logistics from the same institution. His meticulous work ethic and dedication led to a successful career as a bank auditor, where he was honored with an award for his excellence.
Family was at the heart of Safi’s life. He retired early to focus on caring for his children, taking on household responsibilities and assisting with their education while his wife worked as a teacher.
Safi Haddad passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024, at 1:15 AM, after a battle with kidney disease. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Ottawa, Ontario.
He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Daoud, and his sister Marie. Safi is survived by his wife of 48 years, Salwa; his children Alain, Lisette, and David; his siblings Mariam, Rosette, Jean, Samia, and Fairouz; and his grandchildren David, Emilia, Aurelia, and Olivia.
