Ruth Argue

April 6, 1928 — March 18, 2022

ARGUE, Ruth Armenella

1928-2022

Peacefully with Jana at her side, Ruth passed away in her ninety-fourth year at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on March 18, 2022. She is fondly remembered and survived by her nieces Diana Hall and Jana MacMillan (Del); her great niece Nancy Mariage (Lance Speek); her twice-great niece Olivia Mariage, her twice-great nephew Austin Speek, and many cousins.  Ruth was predeceased by her loving parents William Frederick Argue and Rhona Sanderson, and her beloved sister Laurel (the late Anthony Hall).

Ruth grew up in Ottawa in a close-knit extended family. She loved animals, roller skating, singing and dancing. She shared her father's love of Jersey cattle and spent many pleasant hours at his hobby farm.

After working in the family business in Ottawa, Ruth joined the Department of Health and Welfare, first in Poison Control and then in Health Insurance when medicare was being introduced. She made many good friends there.

Ruth sang in the choir of McLeod St. United Church and in productions of the Orpheus Operatic Society. She was a patron of the arts and a member of the National Arts Centre Orchestra Association and the Welsh Society for many years.

She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends--drinking coffee or wine, sharing laughter and stories, and knitting or crocheting in her favourite chair.

Jana's and Del's kindness and Jana's loving care enabled Ruth to live at home for the last seven years of her life, as she wished. Diana and Nancy assisted. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Amanda  Connell of the West Carleton Family Health Care Team; Carp, who helped Ruth live as comfortably as possible with COPD; to the kind and patient PSWs of Bayshore Home Health; who helped with daily living; to caring Palliative Care nurse Joseph, and to the compassionate doctors and nurses of A4 and A5 at the Civic Hospital for their excellent end-of-life care.

Forever loved. Rest in peace, dear Aunt Ruth.

In keeping with her wishes, Ruth will be cremated. She will join her ancestors in Huntley United Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the spring. Donations may be made to  the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or to the Ottawa Humane Society.
