January 5, 1921 to January 13, 2014

Peacefully, surrounded by family, in her 94th year. Beloved wife for 65 years of Maurice Caron. Dear mother of Steven (Debra) and Joanne (Ron Gunning). Cherished grandma of Talia (Darren Farber) and very proud great-grandma of Daniel, Adam and Jamie. Dear sister of Clifford (Marjorie) Stevenson. Predeceased by her brothers Duncan and George. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Joanne Torpey. Born to Ernest Stevenson and Gladys Smith on a farm near Campbell’s Bay QC Ruby attended a one-room country school house and grew up through the depression years. Ruby went on to graduate from Macdonald Teachers College (McGill) and taught in Noranda, Alma, Grand Mere, Arvida and Shawinigan. She supported her husband’s career with moves to West Africa, Jamaica, Arvida and Shawinigan QC before she and Maurice retired to Ottawa. They enjoyed their retirement winters in Portugal, Florida and Mexico. Her kindness and legendary memory of friends and family will be deeply missed. Special thanks to Dr. Popescu, Dr. Hacker, Nurse Christina Barnes and volunteers at Central West Hospice. Per her wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private family service will take place in the spring. Contributions to Hospice Care Ottawa would be appreciated.
