With heavy hearts, the family of Roberta Ann Thompson (Livingstone) announces her passing at her home in Carp, Ontario, after a three year courageous battle with cancer. During this time, she was cared for by her four loving children and health care support workers. Roberta was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, where she attended St. Anne's School. She moved to Toronto, Ontario in the 1950's where she met her husband of 58 years, Murray Thompson. Roberta valued education and civic duty and was very active in local, provincial and federal politics. She always enjoyed reminiscing about her time working for politicians. She played an integral part in establishing The Glen Cairn Library. For a period of time, Roberta wrote a weekly article for the The Glen Cairn Piper. Roberta was never afraid to ask tough questions and take action when necessary. We fondly remember how Mom took it upon herself to open our school and teach during the education dispute of 1975. Roberta was very knowledgeable and as such, she used her knowledge to support her husband, mold her children and encourage her brothers. Her greatest accomplishment was her dedication to her family. Mom always did her best to raise independent, competent and genuine children. We are proud to call her Mom and Grand Mommy. She will be dearly missed. Roberta is survived by her devoted husband Murray; her four children Michael (Debbie), Mark, Kim (Ken) and Lee (Helen); grandson Kyle; brothers Charlie (Audrey) of Regina, Saskatchewan and Roly (Joy) of Edmonton, Alberta. She was predeceased by her father Robert G. Livingstone in 1981 and mother Olga Livingstone (nee Schroder) on January 20, 2000. Friends may visit at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, Carp on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 11 a.m. until time of service. A Memorial Service Celebrating Roberta's Life will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m, followed by a reception The family sincerely appreciates the excellent support- and attentive loving care provided by the many Home Care Health Workers, especially Ginny Birkett. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Cancer Society. Your thoughtful expression of sympathy has been a great comfort to the family during this time of sorrow.
