Robinson – Robert Henry

Peacefully on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in his 87th year. Robert affectionately known as “Bob” was born into the Ottawa grocery business on May 31st, 1934. It didn’t take long for Bob to adopt the hard working ethics of his parents and siblings as he shared the responsibilities of running five IGA’s within the area, and lived above the Westboro store location. Bob was a successful entrepreneur who opened up the first “Your Independent Grocers” in the late 80’s.

In 1958, he met the love of his life Lois Johnston from Kemptville and together they raised five beautiful children and enjoyed spending recreational time with their family and friends boating on the St. Lawrence and Rideau River and at their beloved getaway farm which they shared with good friends Brian and Walter in Lanark County. In the later years of their marriage, Bob and Lois pursued their mutual passion for golf and enjoyed their winters as Florida ‘snowbirds’.

Bob was a strong patriarch of his family, a generous man who would give his shirt to anyone who needed it. He worked hard and played hard and appreciated the acquired taste of a good scotch. He was an excellent father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them, a loving grandpa and a “great -grandpa” to many blessed offspring.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Lois; his children Anne (Jerry), Lynn (Doug), Chris, Jamie (Shelley), and Natalie (J.P); his devoted grandchildren, Robert, Matthew, Leanna, Jacob, Megan, Emma, Jordan, Rachel, Jason, Joseph, Olivia and Georgia. predeceased by his grandson Andrew. His fun loving nature will be missed by his great grandchildren Delilah, Brayden, Jack, Sophie, Jacob and Charlotte. Bob is also survived and will be missed by his sister Irene May and predeceased by his big brothers Ken and Derek. He is loved by many nieces and nephews.

The Robinson family would like to thank the staff at Winchester Hospital for the special care Bob received. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of your choice.

Bob is deeply loved and his enthusiasm, joy for life, campfire songs and infectious laugh will be greatly missed by many. Bob will be remembered for his fierce loyalty to his family and friends.
