Robert Jennings

May 26, 1951 — August 24, 2017

Bob Jennings died quietly and very peacefully in the early morning of August 24, 2017 at the May Court Hospice, with his wife Martha holding his hand as they listened to some of their favourite music.

Bob was a good person who died much too soon. His friends describe him as intelligent, honest, conscientious, polite, tenacious, loyal, generous, caring, inquisitive, compassionate and thoughtful. He had the strongest work ethic and he was always willing to help a friend or neighbour. He was a man of many stories, a man of many talents and had a great sense of humour. Bob was someone who made a real difference in the lives of people lucky enough to know him.

He worked in many fields over the years, from driving a taxi to pay for his college tuition to being a registered Ontario bee-keeper to construction to facilities management to a long career in the federal government where he excelled in finance and administration and was an expert in records management.

Bob had a life-long passion for sports, both playing in and managing local baseball and football teams in Ottawa and Nova Scotia. He loved training and bodybuilding and was proud of winning 1st place in the 1991 Mr. Nova Scotia Masters competition the year he turned 40.

He and Martha liked travelling (Mexico, the east and west coasts of Canada, southern California, New York City) and they loved their annual visits to Hay Lake for the peace and tranquility and to Prince Edward County to explore the countryside. He enjoyed gardening and was happy to look after the city street planter across from his home and chat with neighbours.

Bob will be missed by more people than he probably realized, but especially by his closest friend and training partner, John Jones and all the regulars at the Plant Recreation Centre gym where he loved training, and his many friends across Canada and in Mexico.

Most of all, Bob will be missed, cherished and loved forever by the one true love of his life, Martha. Their love story is one for the ages.

Bob requested that donations be made to one of his favourite organizations – H'Art of Ottawa, 211 Bronson Avenue, Room 304,

Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6H4 or to Hospice Care Ottawa, 114 Cameron Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario, K1S 0X1.

Sincere and heartfelt thanks to Drs. Thompson, Aldridge and Brodeur, the entire CCAC team, the compassionate staff and volunteers at the May Court Hospice and the friends who offered so much help and support over the past year.
