Robert “Bob” Barry Cope passed away May 24, 2024. He passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
Bob was born on September 7, 1942, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Son of the late Jacob Lewis “Jake” Cope and Viola Beatrice “Vi” Forsythe. Bob married Margaret Isobell Scott at Hillview United Church in New Liskeard, Ontario on October 6, 1962.
Bob was employed by CIBC for thirty-three years and his work took the family to numerous Ontario communities. He retired in 1995 and moved to Peterborough where he lived with Marg for twenty years. An avid golfer and curler, Bob took an active interest in his endeavors. He served at various times on the boards of the Peterborough Curling Club, Kawartha Golf and Country Club and the Peterborough United Way.
Bob and Marg moved to Ottawa in 2016 to be closer to family. He spent the last few years of his life caring for his wife as her dementia progressed. When she entered long-term care, he spent tireless hours advocating for her care and also championed improvements for long-term care and memory care in general.
Bob is survived by his wife Marg, son Jeff, and daughter Judy (David Camellato), grandchildren Matthew, Brendan and Lauren, brother Brian and sisters Betty and Barbara.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Irving Greenberg Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated.
