Robert Bociek

June 25, 1927 — August 16, 2013

Suddenly and peacefully on Friday August 16th, Robert slipped away to be with the angels. Beloved husband of Claire Werner. Predeceased by his first wife Constance St. George in 1994. Cherished father of Virginia (Garnet), Beverly (Wayne), Gregory (Amy) and James (Marylene). Loving Grandpa to Kristen, Brendan, Ellery, Alison and Carolyn. Fondly remembered by his step-children Peter (Gail), Mark (Jennifer), Pamela (Gerry) and Robert, as well as 9 Step-Grandchildren and 2 Great Step-Grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents John and Mary, and his siblings Joseph, Caroline, Anne, Julie, Stephanie and Stanley. Survived by several nieces, nephews and their children. Fondly known as "Dr. Bob" by all. Bob was a proud first generation Canadian, whose parents met during their ocean journey from Poland to Ellis Island. The family settled in the Hamilton area to take advantage of the many jobs available in the steel industry. Bob received his B.Sc. from Niagara University and attended medical school at the University of Ottawa. He was a well- known physician in the Ottawa area and was the founder of Drs. Bociek, Wickware and Associates, Radiologists. He loved his work and practiced until the age of 75. Bob had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a kind and gentle soul and a true gentleman. He missed Connie terribly after she died and was lucky to find love a second time with Claire. They enjoyed many warm winters in Florida. Bob suffered a debilitating stroke in August 2011, which left him with a significant expressive aphasia. With Claire's support and devotion he made great strides in recovering a significant amount of his speech. At age 86, he had a mind like a steel trap and his memory was better than most. The family wishes to thank all of the physicians, nurses, speech therapists and physiotherapists who supported Bob in the past two years, including those at the Ottawa Civic Hospital Stroke Unit, the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Bruy&egravere Hospital, as well as his GP Dr. Sawyers. Grateful thanks to his home sup port staff Barbara, Jolanta and Diane. Greg and Ginny are most grateful for the support of Bev, James and Robbie, who were always there when distance did not allow us to be. Most of all, the family would like to recognize and thank Claire for all of her loving and diligent support in helping Dad to succeed on his long road to recovery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 20th 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road. In keeping with Bob's wishes, a private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CNIB, the Humane Society, or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
