After a long battle with ALS, Bob Groves passed away at age 69 surrounded by his family at St Vincent’s hospital in Ottawa on April 25th.
He is survived by his wife Irene, children James (Joanne), Michelle (Josh) and his grandson Matthew. Predeceased by his parents Trevor and Dorothy.
Bob was born in Ottawa and grew up in Montreal, Medicine Hat, and Calgary along with his siblings Keith, Janet, Joy, Jennifer, and Trevor. Bob studied at Calgary University and the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. He served as an expert advisor on constitutional and indigenous matters for the federal government while running the Aboriginal Affairs Group. Between his work with indigenous peoples and his fellow patients at St Vincent’s Hospital, he was a constant advocate for the under-represented.
Bob loved golf, fishing, and spending time with his grandson. Friends will remember him for his quick wit and animated storytelling.
An informal celebration of life will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Rd, Nepean, ON (at Bayshore Drive) between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. Everyone is welcome to share stories and memories of Bob.
For those wishing, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Canada.
