Peacefully, Rita Minerva (Quinn) Babson passed from this world in her 96th year, at St. Patrick’s Home, Ottawa, on February 17, 2022.
Rita – also known as “Erva” – was born into a coal-mining family in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, in 1926. Her memories of her parents, family and community and the many stories she would tell were true crowd pleasers. With a twinkle in her eye, she was always ready to hear some music, have a little dance and a good laugh. She was a natural beauty, with her trademark red hair and pale green eyes.
After marrying Rudy Babson, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, she moved to Ottawa, where they brought up their family. Rudy passed away in 1975 and our loving mother Rita is, no doubt, so happy to be with him again, as well as with her parents, siblings and cherished daughter, Janis.
Our mother was devoted to her family and her Roman Catholic faith, which sustained her through life’s difficult times.
She is survived by her children Charmaine, Rod, Karen, Tim, Sally and Stephany, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Road (between Baseline and Bayshore Drive), Nepean, on Tuesday, February 22 at 11 a.m. In order to attend the Celebration of Life proof of double vaccination and government issued identification is required. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (Leukemia Research) and the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Rita’s memory would be welcome.
Rest in eternal peace, Mom. You’re home.
