Nichols, Richard John “Jack”
Nichols, Richard “Jack” peacefully at the Ottawa Heart Institute in his 96th year after a lifetime of contribution to his family, community and country. Jack served overseas in the Second World War with the RAF as well as 415 Squadron of the RCAF and was stationed in Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. Following the War, Jack served in the public service with the Department of Veterans Affairs working on demobilization, and subsequently as a policy analyst and manager with the Department of Immigration. An avid photographer, gardener, artist and a truly skilled builder of model ships, Jack was also a devoted contributor to a variety of charities and a faithful and regular volunteer at both his Church and with Air Force Veterans’ Associations. He was predeceased by his father Charles and mother Mary (Rekowski) of Ottawa, his beloved wife Joan (nee Parslow), sons George and Bruce, and by his 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived, and his generous and kind spirit will be greatly missed by his sons John (Karin), Glen (Tony), grandchildren Bradley (Amanda), Richard (Erica), Lisa (Darren),Graeme (Ashley) and Meredith, great grandson Griffin, daughter-in-law Allison Jamieson as well as by the many friends and associates with whom he shared so many interests. A private interment will take place, and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on February 23 at the Church that he loved, St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa. The family would like to thank Dr. Luc Beauchesne, and the other doctors, nurses and staff of the Ottawa Heart Institute for the exceptional care and support they provided to Jack.
