Bennett, Richard "Dick" Bedford
February 8, 1934 - May 19, 2018
Dick, a kind, gentle gentleman in his 85th year, slipped away peacefully after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Devoted husband of 59 years and best friend of Lois Jean (nee White). Proud and loving father of Dawn (the late Kenneth) Rasmussen, Dale (Barbara) Bennett, and Dana (Ken) Grosser. Grampy will be forever missed by his cherished grandchildren, Dale Jr. (Victoria), Kenny (Taylor), Kurt, Jackson, and Chris (Gayle). Predeceased by his parents Adam and Lena (nee McCaughan) Bennett and brothers and sisters-in-law Ray & Lorna, Clinton & Francis, Vernon & Barbara. Survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil & Jean White and Nancy & John Pink. He will also be missed by his beloved Aunt Laura Weatherall. Remembered by his nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear lifelong friends. Dick was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for twenty-seven years and continued to work for an additional fourteen years as a public servant. Dick continued and enjoyed working at various other jobs until retiring at 73. He was a member of the Canadian Royal Legion and a lifetime member of the Orange Lodge. Dick was an avid golfer and although he might not have been the best at it, he enjoyed his time on the course with friends Ray Jr., Al and the late Andy. Dick was a generous blood donor and was honoured by the Canadian Red Cross Blood Services for donating a record number of times, greater than four hundred.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful staff at the Queensway Carleton D4 Ward as well as the caring staff of Longfields Manor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
