June 14, 1943 – March 3, 2016

After a life well lived, Rene Melancon of Nepean, ON, passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Thursday, March 3, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Blanche Melancon of Pembroke, Ontario and by his father and mother-in-Law, Alfred and Madeline Taylor of North Gower. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Joan (nee Taylor), his two wonderful sons Craig (Deborah) of Oshawa and Mark (Anastasia) of Kemptville and three loving grandsons Tyler (Herentals, Belgium), Taylor (Oshawa), and Thomas Joseph -T.J. (Montreal). Rene will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law Ted Taylor (Betty) of Markham and sister-in-law Barbara Lewis (Richmond) and their families who were all very special to him. He will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues and in particular by his dear friends Larry Hartman, Ken McCrimmon, and Richard Stern.

Rene was president of Cape Marketing and ran the business for 35 years. He was very actively involved in and was a past president of the Rideau Kiwanis Club. During his life, he spent a lot of time at various sporting events, particularly hockey, following his two sons and more recently his three grandsons. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kindness, his generosity, and his sense of humour. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of the Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean, on Wednesday, March 9 th from 6-8 pm. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, March 10 th at 12 noon. A special thanks to Dr. Spilg and the medical team that looked after Rene at the Civic Hospital, for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Canadian Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
