Rene Brutus

In the beautiful morning of September 27, 2013, at the age of 82, surrounded by kisses and hugs from his wife and children, Dr. Jean-Rene Brutus has quietly passed away at his home in Ottawa. His life has been nothing but a lesson of immense love and care. The purest values of kindness, honesty and fairness were natural to him. For that, real love always flowed towards him from those around him in every country he lived. He shared 50 precious years beside his beloved wife Xiomara. Throughout their years together they overcame many hurdles of the most diverse kind, but most importantly they spent an exceptional wonderful time thanks to the never ending source of their bonding love. They founded a beautiful family which we feel very fortunate to be part of. Our highest acknowledgements to Xiomara, she is the main person responsible for extending his life by 28 meaningful years.

A passion for History and Philosophy, education of the young people was paramount to him. His children and granddaughters were probably the most favored by the energy he devoted to it, but they were not the only ones; dating back from his days in his natal Haiti, he did the same with a group of younger cousins and friends who still think of him as their actual educator and mentor.

Jean-Rene, thanks for passing that immense fortune on all of us; it will surely last for generations. We all are enormously rich by receiving it from you. We are what you made us to be. You are among all of us. We are what you are. Thank you eternally.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Xiomara, his children Jean-René Jr. (Cecilia), Marie-Claude (Ernesto); his grandchildren Alexia, Amélie, Alejandra, Jean-René (the third) and André; his cousins Rolex, Wilda, Jules Reynold, Marc-Adrien, Raynaud and Walbert.

At Jean- Rene's request there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
