Peacefully at his residence on Sunday, June 12, 2022, in his 92nd year. Predeceased by his first wife Sylvia (nee Horne) and by his second wife Patricia (nee McGrath). Survived by his children Robert (Corinne Underwood), Gail (Dan Donovan), Susan (Pierre Simard), stepchildren Donna-Lynn (Mike Burgess), John Baldry (Wanda) and Jim Baldry (Cathie Kulas), grandchildren Meghan, Heather, Casey, Tori, Zachary, Madeleine, Aaron and Riley and great-grandchildren Jack, Brody and Charlie. Predeceased by his parents Ezra and Ruby Grant and by brother Claire (Lyla), Bert (Mildred) and George (Bev). Survived by siblings Marguerite “Peggy” Smith (late Richard), James “Jim” (Shirley) and Barbara (Brian Watters).
Ray retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force after a long and distinguished career, having attained the senior rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He went on to spend many years in the private sector in his field of Avionics. Until his later years, Ray was a very active Mason and Shriner. He was Worshipful Master of Carleton Lodge #465 in 1985-1986 and was also the long serving secretary. He was elected District Deputy Grand Master of Ottawa District 1 from 1991-1992. He was a member of Scottish Rite and was made a 33 degree Mason in 2004. As a Noble in the Tunis Shrine Oriental Band, he spent many of his weekends entertaining the public and raising funds to support Shriner initiatives. Ray spent countless years providing various forms of service to the community and St. Paul’s United Church in Carp.
Friends may visit at the Carp Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 115 Rivington Street, Carp on Tuesday, June 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s United Church, 3760 Carp Road, Carp on Wednesday, June 22 at 11 a.m. A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Please note that masks are required in St. Paul’s United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
