Peter Jan Valdstyn, 85, of Kemptville Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2022, at the Heart Institute.
Peter was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive father. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. He is survived by his wife Joan and leaves behind 3 children, Paul (Jen), Wendy (Dan), Sandra (Gregg), Lara (Michael). His grandchildren: Amanda (Alex), Christopher (Heather), Andrew, Mathew (Dakota), Cameron, Steven, Derek. His great grandchildren: Anderson, Amelia, Finley. He will be forever loved, forever missed & forever in our hearts.
Born in Zilina, Slovakia, he emigrated to Canada with his family in 1948 where they settled in Montreal. Peter joined the military at 18 and became a pilot and met his wife Joan. They were together for almost 63 years.
Although he had a love of flying, he ended up leaving the military to take over his father’s business after his passing in 1960. He kept his pilot licence for years and enjoyed going up in small planes to look at the countryside around his cottage on Lake Barron, Quebec.
After many years of working and living in Pointe Claire, Quebec, he sold the company and eventually moved to Ottawa to continue another business that he started. He had a passion for sales and really enjoyed it. Starting out in Orleans, He and Joan eventually settled in Kemptville where they had many wonderful years together.
He enjoyed watching hockey and cheered for his team the Ottawa Senators, but never forgot his love of Montreal, or his birth country of Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic. He also enjoyed golf and was out golfing with his wife, daughter and son in law the summer of 2021. He was a long-time member of Kiwanis as well as past president and poppy chairman of the Osgoode Legion.
He also loved travelling and was blessed with visiting many places with his wife Joan, including Prague, Czech Republic.
The family will be having a private burial in Kemptville. The family requests donations to the Heart Institute in lieu of flowers. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Osgoode Legion.
