Peter Donald Hopwood died peacefully at the age of 85. Born in Ottawa in 1928, Peter served in the Canadian Army from 1944 to 1946, and spent several years in the merchant navy, traveling the world. A graduate of both Carleton University and the University of Essex, UK, Peter was active in politics and taught in several institutions in Ottawa, including over 20 years as an English professor at Algonquin College. He was also a writer and a poet. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Thelma Cartwright, and children, Peter and Catherine (Thomas Balint). Predeceased by his son, James, in February 2013. Friends and relatives are welcome to drop in to the Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road, on Sunday, December 15, between 2 and 4 pm, to share their memories and reflections on Pete’s life.
