Peter George dePencier

June 11, 1946 — January 22, 2025

Peter dePencier, 78, passed peacefully on January 22nd 2025 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Peter was born in Montreal, June 11th, 1946, the eldest son of Eric dePencier and Maureen Day. Peter's early life saw him grow up in the Montreal area and later attend Stanstead College in Quebec. He began his work career at CN Rail in Montreal.

Pete married his first wife Maureen Nolan in 1967, and they welcomed their son Eric in 1969 in Point Claire, Quebec.

Pete moved his family to Ottawa in 1976 where he went on to partner on several successful furniture stores in the Ottawa area, including Gallant, Dante Furnishings, and Harpers Furnishings.

In the 80's Peter remarried to Sharon Steele (passed in 2024) and raised the family (Sharon's two sons - Mark and David) in Arlington Woods, a suburb in Nepean Ontario. He purchased a cottage in Buckham's Bay, where family & friends gathered to make memories swimming, boating and fishing.

Pete is fondly remembered for his love of cooking. With a particular penchant for the more extravagant dishes, Pete wowed his partner Cheryl and their friends with his famous bouillabaisse and of course his spaghetti.

Pete will be remembered for his great smile, his generosity, and his amazing sense of humour as he touched the lives of so many friends and family.

Peter was predeceased by his wife Maureen in 1979 and his brother Hugh in 1987. Pete is survived by Cheryl Plummer, his loving partner of over 30 years, his son Eric (Cathy), his granddaughter Teagan, the Nolan family and brother-in-law Reg Plummer (Gail).

A memorial reception will be held at the Tubman Garden Chapel, Saturday, April 12, from 12-2pm, with words of remembrance at 1 pm.
