Gardiner - Paul

On December 8, 2022, Paul passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband for 59 years to Ruth (Aird), cherished father of Alexandra (Bill) Gutelius, Paul (Laura) Gardiner and Erin (Simon) Kaegi, and adored grandfather of Helen, Kaitlyn, Anne, Adam, Matthew, William, David, and Emma.

Paul was the son of the late Adam and Elizabeth Gardiner. He was pre-deceased by his brothers Jim (Betty) and Rennie (Beverley), sister Eileen, and his special cousin John.  Paul was a brother-in-law and close friend to Allan Carswell and Tom Reid, and was pre-deceased by his sisters-in-law Helen Carswell and Isabelle Reid. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Paul attended Duke of Connaught P.S., Riverdale C.I. and graduated from the University of Toronto in Engineering Physics. Paul attended the Ontario College of Education and pursued a career in teaching with the Toronto Board of Education and later the Scarborough Board of Education. He became Vice Principal of Agincourt C.I. at  the tender age of 29 and later was Vice Principal at Laurier C.I. and Principal at R.H. King Academy, Mowat C.I., and Section 27.

Paul married the love of his life and best friend Ruth in 1963. Together they raised three children of whom they are very proud.  Paul and Ruth shared a love of traveling, music and singing in choirs.  Summers at their cottage in Haliburton, membership in Sleepy Hollow Golf and Country Club in Stouffville, and winter trips to St. Simons Island allowed Paul to indulge his life long passion for golf.  Paul was a talented poet who turned events into poignant and often humorous poems. Throughout his life Paul was an active member in church life and served on the Board of Managers and the Session for many years at St. James Presbyterian Church.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on December 28, 2022 at Stouffville United Church. The service will be held at 2:00 PM with visitation at the church from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM.
