Olyve Mckenney

June 15, 1933 — January 13, 2016

DUNLOP, Olyve Marjorie (née McKenney
June 15, 1933 - January 13, 2016

Passed away peacefully at home with her children and her devoted caregiver Susan by her side, on January 13, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Ronald Dunlop. She will live forever in the hearts of her children Janine and Dwight (Lorie). Predeceased by her parents Edward and Olyve McKenney and her siblings Lois (late Malcom Paterson), Elinor (late Richard Stanzel), Carol (late Gordon Campbell), and Bill (Ruth Rathwell). Survived by her brother Allyn (Beverley). Marjorie's love for family was deep and unconditional. She will be fondly remembered by special nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, many relatives and numerous friends who she always lovingly made part of her extended family. A teacher by profession and nature, Mum taught us our greatest life lessons during her bittersweet journey of the past five years. We have learned that unwavering courage, strength and determination are the traits of everyday heroes. Her grace and optimism were on display until the end. One of her last phrases uttered was "We had a great day!". We are grateful to have been able to keep Mum at home all of these years. How do we begin to thank Mum's dedicated caregivers, especially Susan, Julie, and Michelle, who were with us for most of this journey? They showed Mum so much kindness, love, and respect. Sincere thanks to Dr. Eileen Biggs, as well as the Palliative care team who all treated Mum with great compassion and dignity. A memorial celebration of Marjorie's life will be held with family and friends this summer at her favourite place on earth, the cottage on Big Rideau Lake. If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider Hospice Care Ottawa.
