Norma Howie

October 24, 1930 — December 29, 2015

RATHWELL, Norma Joyce (nee Howie)

Passed away peacefully on December 29, 2015 at Stillwater Creek Retirement Community in her 86th year. Born on October 24, 1930 in Perth, Ontario, Norma grew up in town and enjoyed summers at Otty Lake. A graduate of the Ottawa Normal School in 1951 and the University of Waterloo in 1980, she taught kindergarten for her entire career, including 23 years at Pinecrest Public School in Ottawa. Norma served in the Canadian Naval Reserve at both HMCS York and HMCS Carleton. In 1988 she was part of a team that achieved that rarest of curling accomplishments - an eight-ender. Norma married William (Bill) Rathwell in Perth in 1955 and they enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage before his passing in 1995. She is survived by her son Sean (Wendy) and grandchildren Ian, Kevin (Natalie), and Graham. Thank you to the Stillwater nurses and ALC1 staff for their care and compassion.
