NORBERT RICARD
December 7, 1938 – March 17, 2022
Norbert was born in Ottawa & raised by his adoptive parents in northern Ontario. He attended Notre Dame College in Saskatchewan, completing his high school & college courses. Between college & university he worked in the gold mines of Red Lake, Ontario.
At Ottawa University, Norbert completed a B.A, B.Ed and M.Ed. His first teaching assignment was at Our Lady of Victory High School in Buckingham, then, a principalship for 9 years at the elementary level of Our Lady of Victory School. Norbert finished his teaching career at école St. Michel a French- language primary school, in Buckingham.
Gifted with an eye for composition Norbert’s photography captured the essence of nature. He filmed & photographed, with such zeal, the dogs he loved & enjoyed over the years.
Norbert wrote hundreds of poems dedicated to his dogs & nature. Though never published, they would have brought much joy to many a reader.
A proud member of the Notre Dame Alumnae, Norbert participated and supported activities promoting the philosophy of Notre Dame & its founder Fr. Athol Murray.
In retirement, he headed, for over 10 years, a committee (la Condition des Hommes) with his retired teachers’ association, organizing educational conferences with presentations and guest speakers.
An avid reader, Norbert’s retirement allowed him to bask in the world of reflection & thought on his favorite subjects: education, politics, religion and humanity.
“A LIFE WELL LIVED, GENEROUS AND RESPECTFUL OF MAN AND NATURE –
THAT WAS NORBERT!”
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Maureen (née) Cullen. They spent 53 years together supporting & encouraging each other in their endeavors.By his sister Margeurite Mongeon (late Rolland), his sister-in-law, Ann Lutterman (Larry), and several nieces and nephews; as well as many friends gained over a lifetime.
