Nicole Pinel Slimman
1944-2021
It is with broken hearts and cherished memories that our family announces the death of our beloved Nicole Pinel, cherished wife, loyal sister, stepmother, grandmother and beloved friend. She passed from complications from Covid at the young age of 76.
She was born on May 1, 1944 and raised in Quebec City. She attended Les Ursulines and got her degree at Laval University.
Nicole moved to Ottawa and spent many satisfying years working in the federal government. She met the love of her life Colonel Don Slimman (RCAF retired) and they were married for 37 glorious years.
Left to mourn are Don Slimman, Christian(Josee) Pinel, Sylvie Pinel, Lorna Slimman, Diana (Chris) Sneddon, Elaine (Keith) Taggart, Katherine (Richard) Slimman and 7 adoring grandchildren. She leaves behind many devoted aunts and cousins. Predeceased by her father Leo Pinel and and Laurette Poitras. Nicole had many friends from Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Mexico, and around the world.
Her spirit for adventure began in her early 20’s as she embarked on seeing as many countries as she could.
Never fond of the cold winters, Don and Nicole began a new life in Roatan, Honduras for 5 years but Hurricane Mitch made Nicole put her foot down and said "we're leaving" and they moved to a new life in Mexico where they spent many fulfilling years in Chapala and Nuevo Vallarta.Numerous travel adventures and adapting to a new culture always added to the excitement in their lives - Nicole loved embarking on new adventures and made many new friendships over the years.
Nicole will be remembered by her kindness, beautiful style, and her understanding and compassion for others. She loved to cook, keep a home, and took wonderful care of Don. She was wise, tactful, intellectually curious, and fiercely proud of her Quebec culture and heritage. And she had the most delightful laugh - a girlish giggle that lit up her face.
The family is grateful for the exceptional care from her Doctor David MacDonald, and Dr. Scott Millington and the wonderful team of ICU Covid nurses. In lieu of flowers donations appreciated by the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date, after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
