Nadine Audrey Heins

Nadine Audrey Heins of Kanata, Ontario passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014. Nadine was married to the late Anthony Heins for 65 years. She was mother to Malcolm (Jana), Robert (Heather), Duncan (Debbie), Bronwen and Nicholas and had 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all of them. Nadine was born in Hereford, England in 1929 where she met and married Tony in 1948. They immigrated to Canada shortly after they were married and while first living in Toronto, moved to Ottawa in 1954. Nadine was trained as an early childhood educator and was the owner of Tiny Tots Nursery School in the 1960’s. In addition to being an educator Nadine was a skilled homemaker, a prodigious baker, seamstress and knitter as well as a loving mother in the raising of her five children with Tony. Nadine and Tony particularly enjoyed their times with family and friends at their cottage on Barnes Lake, Lady Smith, P.Q. For 35 years she volunteered at the Museum of Civilization as a guide. She was particularly good with children and was recognized for her services with the award of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. There is a wonderful video of Nadine’s life on You Tube courtesy of Revera – she had been living at the Colonel By for the last 12 months. Nadine was 85 when she passed away and while it is never easy to say goodbye, her enquiring mind, determination and boundless energy have left behind many wonderful memories for all who knew her. The family will hold a celebration of Nadine’s life in the New Year. Donations may be made to the Ottawa Heart Institute.
