Boyd, Moira
It is with deep sorrow, yet with hope, that we say our beloved Moira Boyd (née Sims) and her beautiful soul have passed peacefully for eternity into the loving arms of her creator on January 19, 2022, after short stays at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Kanata. Left to mourn, are her loving husband of 66 years, Dr. Archibald (Archie) Boyd, sons, John (Elaine), Douglas (MD) (Lee), and Brendan (Nadine). She leaves behind her grandchildren, Samantha, Matt, Sarah, D.J., Kimmerlee (MD), Patrick and Julia and great granddaughter, Tiffany.
Moira was born in 1931 and raised in the Glebe area of Ottawa. Her parents, Walters Sims, a member of an old Ottawa family and Esther Roscoe, born in Ireland and lived to 103. She lost her beloved father to a heart attack when she was 10 years old. Her sister, Joan Barnabe pre-deceased her in 2019. Moira was a dedicated and skilled teacher who achieved excellent results at the Ottawa Normal School. She furthered her training in music. Her love of children combined with an outgoing personality endeared her to her pupils some of whom became lifelong friends. She taught in separate and public schools, including at the Uplands Air Force Base.
Moira’s creativity was reflected in her many knitting projects, including socks, hats, mitts and afghans. Nothing surpassed her love and pride than in her sons and grandchildren. She took great pleasure in loving and bonding with them at all stages in their lives, especially when they were very young. Moira’s beautiful soul was also expressed in her many oil paintings, a hobby which she enjoyed until just recently. Most of her paintings were gifted to family members.
Moira also shared with Archie the practice of Christian meditation in the tradition of John Main. This enriched their lives together over many years.
Her generosity of spirit reflected her personality in the many selfless deeds she did for others. This led her to share the talents she had. Gifted which a clear voice, she served as a lay reader at mass for many years. She also took an active part in prayer groups which revealed an uncanny gift to sense what was troubling a petitioner.
