Died peacefully on November 27, 2016 at Thorncliffe Place Seniors Residence, Ottawa, Ontario. Born in Kirriemuir, Alberta, the youngest son of John D. Neil and Rhoda E. Billing, Mirrel was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Hélène Lancop, his brother Willis (Rita) and his sister Olive. He is survived by his son Nelson (Elizabeth); grandchildren Allison, Wesley, and Patrick; his niece Shirley Jacobs (Stewart Jacobs); and relatives by marriage. Mirrel Neil made his career in the pulp and paper industry, retiring as Maintenance Planning Supervisor of the Abitibi Consolidated paper mill in Beaupre, Quebec, where he lived for most of his life. Additionally, Mirrel proudly served his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force between 1939 -1946 in Western Canada and England, he was a past master of St. John's Masonic Lodge, Quebec, and a lifetime elder at Chalmers Wesley UCC. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at Chalmers Wesley United Church, 78 rue Sainte-Ursule, Quebec City (G1R 4E8). Parking will be available at the Garrison Club on Rue d'Auteuil . Visitation will begin at 12:00, with the funeral service at 1:00 PM, followed by a brief reception in the church hall, prior to interment at Mt. Hermon cemetery. All are welcome.
