Hogan - Michael John

(July 23, 1931 - Dec. 3, 2013)

As a result of complications with heart surgery at the age of 82 years. Beloved husband of Diane Fitzgerald. Loving father of Kevin and his wife Jovita Hogan. Dear grandfather of Cory J. A. Hogan. He is survived by his brothers Pat (Stella), Francis (Gladys), Robert, and Bernard (Margaret), and by his former wife Lois Hogan. He will be missed by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Lena Hogan, his parents Thomas Ambrose and Loretta Aurora (nee Mercil) Hogan, and by his siblings Terrance (Sylvia), Geraldine (Ronald) Lambert, Thomas (Helen), Rose-Mary (John) Oger, Eleanor (John) Elvish, and Harvey (Elsie).

Born in Fort Williams (now Thunder Bay), as a boy during the depression, Muck as he was known in those days, would swim with his friends along the Kam River, sliding down the muddy banks, hence the nickname. Later, Mickey took odd jobs that were always exciting and dangerous. He was the adventurous type. He had an accident steel rigging at age of 23 in Red Rock, which almost took his life, if not for the devotion of his friends. When he recovered, Mick was hired on to the CPR at West Fort Hump, Thunder Bay, as a switchman where he later worked as foreman until finally being promoted to conductor some years before retiring at age 56 in 1988. He enjoyed bingo, cards, casinos, cooking and spending time with friends. He was pleasant, entertaining and there would never be a dull moment when he recounted adventures he had through his youth. He was always impatient to move on to the next event. Never shy to give his opinion, he would drop in unannounced to say hi and catch up on news. He moved to Ottawa in 2001 to be near his son and his family. Always an honoured guest at family functions, he will be dearly missed.

Burial of the ashes to take place at Hope Cemetery, Ottawa in Diane's family plot. Arrangements by Tubman Funeral Homes, Ottawa. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
