It is with deep sadness that we announce Michael's passing on Saturday, November 28 th , 2015 at the age of 77. Survived by his beloved wife Mary Vetere, his children, Geoffrey and Susan (Filipe), grandchildren, Miguel, Benicio and Angelica. Dear brother of Jill (John) Stone. Fondly remembered by his first wife, Maureen, nieces Margaret Stone and Caroline (David) Bain, nephews Charles Stone and Ian (Alexandra) Stone, great nieces, great nephews and the Vetere family. Friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of Michael's life on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 2 p.m. until time of service in the Chapel at 3 p.m. followed by a reception Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road, Nepean. Michael was born in Kingston, Jamaica on March 26 th , 1938. He joined the Jamaica Defence Force in 1965 where he served until 1973, commanding complex military workshop and light aid detachments in the support of the Infantry Brigade with air and marine squadrons. Michael moved to Ottawa in 1976 and established himself in the field of mechanical engineering, working as an independent consultant for the Department of National Defence and for high technology companies in both Canada and the United States. Michael was a long-time member of the National Capital Region Rifle Association where he indulged his passion for competitive target shooting and also provided training and guidance to new members. Throughout his life, Michael had a deep attachment with the natural world and the arts. His many interests included opera, music, in particular classical music, dance, in particular ballet, exploring museums and art galleries, and playing his guitar. He was a lover of history and all things military. He took great pleasure in growing orchids, a life-long love that he acquired in his early days in Jamaica from his grandfather. Michael pursued his passion for scuba diving at every opportunity, exploring the reefs and making the acquaintance of the many fish that inhabited his beloved Caribbean Sea. Michael's last years were spent enjoying his country property with Mary, and the many domestic and wild animals who found their way to his door.
