Mavis Lenore Jamieson (nee Delong)
Mavis was called to rest on September 21, 2022, at her home in Amica Westboro Park. Predeceased by her beloved husband Stan in 2019, she leaves behind her much-loved family – daughter Kathy (Dan Mottershead) and son Bruce (Julie Lockhart). She was a cherished Nan to James and Thomas Mottershead and a special Aunt to many generations of nieces and nephews.
Born on September 16, 1924, Mavis grew up in Fredericton, New Brunswick. She began studying at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) in 1941 and graduated in 1945 with honours in mathematics – one of the first women to do so. She also competed in basketball and ice hockey. Mavis moved to Ontario with friends soon after graduation. She met Stan on a trip to Ottawa and they spent over 70 wonderful years together. Mavis was warm and welcoming - you immediately felt at home when you came for a visit. Mavis and Stan had a cottage at Norway Bay for over 50 years, frequently hosting friends and family. She was a prolific baker and her butterscotch pies are still talked about today. She was also super sharp right up until her last weeks, completing the puzzles and Sudoku in the newspaper each day, playing bridge and keeping up to date with current events. She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial reception at the Westboro Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Rd. at Roosevelt on Saturday, October 1st, from 10am – 12 noon. Words of remembrance will be shared at 11am.
