Maryke Mccarron

Maryke passed away peacefully and with her family late Thursday night at age 75. Maryke came to Canada in 1956 and settled in Ottawa where she worked as a seamstress and fashion designer. Affectionately known as "Merks", she is survived by her husband Gordon Grant, granddaughter Flavia and daughters Farika and Lauren, whose father, Patrick, passed away in January 2013. Merks was an exceptional character whose attitude and love for life was forthright and uncompromising and underwritten by great generosity and good humor. Entertaining and opinionated Merks had an answer for everything and time for everyone. She fought courageously against illness for more than 25 years and in the end succumbed to it with grace and dignity and in her own time- much the same combination of stubbornness and serenity that had characterized her life. She won't be easily forgotten and will be well remembered by all who knew her through all the roles she played in her life.
