Mary passed away peacefully at Park Place Retirement Residence in her 103rd year. Beloved wife of Bill (predeceased 2020) for 77 years. Loving mother of Patricia Steenbergen (Dave), Katherine Armstrong (Jim), Susan Allison (Greg), Margaret Dickson (Richard), John and Ross (predeceased 2015). Cherished grandmother to Grant (Simcha), Eric (Rebecca), Ian (Suzanne), Emily (Rikesh) and Maria. Adored by her great grandchildren Zofya, Taymor, Malcolm, Francis, Gordon and Eowyn. Dear Sister to Olive (Jung) and predeceased by her siblings Margaret, Doris, Robert, Jack and Claire. She will be remembered as the family matriarch by her many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Determined and independent, Mary lived a full and rich life. She loved to quilt and all her children and grandchildren have a quilt to treasure. She was a faithful member of City View United Church and tirelessly volunteered, especially making turkey pies for the Snowflake Bazaar. Mary always knew she wanted to be a nurse and trained at the Ottawa Civic Hospital where she nursed for many years. She and Bill enjoyed Bobs Lake and loved to share the cottage with family and friends. Mom lived well at Park Place for twelve years where she made many friends among residents and staff. The family would like to thank all the staff who cared for Mom with so much love and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Park Place, 120 Central Park Drive on Saturday, June 24 at 1:30pm. If desired, donations would be appreciated to City View United Church. Tributes, condolences and donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
