Mary Slocombe

July 17, 1941 — October 30, 2017

It is with a sad heart that we announce the too soon passing of our beloved mother, sister and daughter, Mary “Bella” McNulty. Mary died on October 30, 2017, in Ottawa, Ontario, at 76 years of age. Mary is the daughter of Grace Slocombe (nee Tuttle) and the late David (Dai) Thomas Slocombe.

Mary was born on July 17, 1941 in Dundee, Scotland. She travelled on the Atlantic to Canada on The Scythia with her mother and sisters (Gracie and Glynis) in March 1957. Her father was waiting for the family in Timmins, Ontario to start their new life. Although Mary tried to miss the boat (!), we’re all happy she made the trip.

Mary’s passion for creating beautiful things took her to hundreds of craft shows over the years. Her artistic talent, patience and attention to detail allowed her to create the most amazing and intricate crafts. She loved to cook and feed her family. Mary thrived on being a mother and a grandmother. She loved nurturing her family, and making sure everything and everyone was okay! She was kind, considerate and never judged – a rare gem. We will miss her hugs of assurance, and cheeky sense of humour.

Mary is preceded in death by her dear husband Burke McNulty. She is survived by her five children: Barbara McNulty (Gerry), Debbie Jackson (Dave), Sandra La Rocque (Eddy), David McNulty (Sylvia) and Kora (Karen) McNulty.

Mary leaves behind her eleven grandchildren: Crystal, Ashley, Alexandria, Ryan, Drew, Marc, Eric, Jonathan, Annique, Alexandre and Grace, and seven great grandchildren: MacKenzie, Braeden, Nicholas, Briella, Adriana, Antoine, and Lucia.

Mary will be missed by her beloved and cherished sisters Gracie Clark (Richard) and Glynis McBride (James), and their families.

Mary’s family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Mary during her last days at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, in particular the amazing nurses on the third floor (A3). The smiles and hugs from the caring staff went a long way.
